As the traveler sets foot in the port of Melita, he will find himself on an esplanade where lies the main market of the city. The esplanade continues to the East with a road leading to the arena, while the Western road which begins goes in a straight line, between the houses and the tavern, until it reaches the gate of a luxurious domus. It is the house of domina Arachne, daughter of Aristomenes from Messinia. This young and beautiful Greek widow made her fortune as a merchant of art and luxury furniture and her domus is a magnificent display of mosaics and frescoes made by renowned artisans from all around Mare Nostrum. The domus is overseen by a young epitropos from Gallia, the ambitious Heron, who still has to share the ergastulum with the common house slaves.
